My Treat's 'Eco-Friendly July' Box
My Treat's July Box is all about bringing eco-friendly products to subscribers, with this month's range of Kiwi products being either plastic-free, or recyclable. Some of the items in this month's box also have a Winter theme to help you fight the chills and ills that July brings. My Treat offer two different monthly subscriptions; the Body Box, and the Mini Box, as well as a variety of one-off boxes featuring popular items from previous boxes. Today I am reviewing My Treat's 'Body Box' which is $38.95 NZD per month, along with $6 shipping. The July Box contains six products from brands such as: Mia Belle, Ahhh... Cosmetics, Nudi Point, Quarterpast, and My Treat!
1. "Immunity" Essential Oil Roll-On Blend by Nudi Point
I've been itching to try this "Immunity" Essential Oil Roll-On Blend by Nudi Point, as I currently have a cold (yay for Winter!), and am feeling pretty blocked up and crappy. Nudi Point regularly feature in My Treat's boxes, and are one of my favourite NZ brands as all of their products are uplifting, smell amazing, and are of great quality. Nudi Point's products are also made from natural ingredients, are cruelty-free and all of their packaging is recyclable, and their use of plastic is minimal. Their new, "Immunity" Essential Oil Roll-On contains a blend of: Sweet Almond Oil, and Pure Essential Oils of Lemon, Clove, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus, and Rosemary. These essential oils are warming, and have antiseptic, antibacterial, and immune boosting properties. You can apply this blend to either your temples, and your nose as required. I chose to roll this on under my nose, and also combined this with their "Breathe" Roll-On for extra aid. It does help relieve some of the tension and blockage that I'm having and is good to use just before you go to bed.
2. Peach Smoothie Sugar Scrub by Ahhh Bodycare
Here we have a new product from NZ skincare company Ahhh Bodycare. These sugar scrub bars are naked and come packaged in home compostable cardboard. This sugar scrub will cleanse, exfoliate, and moisturise with it's super ingredient, coconut oil! This bar smells good enough to eat and is handmade from natural ingredients and is both cruelty-free and Paraben-free. The scrub is exfoliating but still gentle on your skin and I hopped out of the shower smelling sweet and peachy!
3. BELOVED Shampoo Bar by Mia Belle
Next up, we have one of two, naked haircare products by NZ company, Mia Belle. Mia Belle have been regularly featuring in My Treat's boxes this year, and I've had the pleasure of trying products from both their haircare and skincare range. Mia Belle's products are created using ethically-sourced ingredients from NZ suppliers, that are natural and organic. You'll find that all of Mia Belle's products are cruelty-free, phthalate-free, and plant-based, with their packaging being environmentally friendly. These solid shampoo bars are wrapped in paper, meaning no plastic bottle, and last three times longer than your regular shampoo, which is up to 80 washes! The Shampoo Bar itself is pastel pink, and you can smell the llight, sweet, creamy infusion of Vanilla, Jasmine, and Sandalwood. I had my partner also try both Shampoo & Conditioner Bars on both his hair and beard, to get his thoughts on them. I found that the BELOVED Shampoo Bar has a great lather, and my partner thought the same, and he was happy that he didn't have to use much to get a good lather from the bar. My hair is long and thick, and I was skeptical whether I'd get a good wash from this bar but I did, and my hair felt squeaky clean after just the one wash.
4. BELOVED Conditioner Bar by Mia Belle
The second Mia Belle product in the 'Eco-Friendly July' Box is the BELOVED Conditioner Bar which you can buy as a pair with the BELOVED Shampoo Bar, or on it's own. Solid shampoo and conditioner bars are the way to go as they are plastic-free, last longer than your usual supermarket products, and are compact, so they don't take up much room in your toiletries bag when you go away! To look after your bars, you want to remove them from the shower after use, let them dry, and then store them in a container.
I've used some terrible conditioner bars in the past, and have steered clear since, but the BELOVED Conditioner Bar is a hair game changer! It didn't leave my hair feeling greasy at all, and my hair felt soft and smooth after using this bar. After using both the Shampoo and Conditioner Bar once, it made my hair more manageable, with both brushing a blowdrying being a breeze to do. Im converted to the BELOVED bars, and don't think I'll be able to go back to my regular shampoo and conditioner again.
5. My Treat's Bamboo Toothbrush
The next eco-friendly product in the July box, is one from My Treat themselves, and that's their Bamboo Handled Toothbrush! Products made from bamboo are fast gaining popularity, and for good reason, as bamboo is the fastest growing plant, making it the most renewable resource. This bamboo toothbrush is sturdy and the bristles on the brush are soft but still firm. It also comes packaged in a cardboard box, very refreshing to see as toothbrushes you get from the supermarket are not just made from plastic, but also packaged in plastic which is a real shame. I'll be using this toothbrush when I next travel in NZ!
Price: $12.00 for a 4-pack
6. Gold Kiwi Turmeric & Ginger Real Fruit Infusion by Quarterpast
The last product in this month's box is a nice little Winter aid, and that's the Gold Kiwi Turmeric & Ginger Real Fruit Infusion by Quarterpast. All of their packaging is a 100% recyclable, just remove the labels and give the bottle and cap a good rinse. Quarterpast have a large range of syrups and tea infusions, with this new infusion containing a mix of Gold Kiwifruit, honey, lemon, turmeric, and ginger, the perfect drink for when you're feeling a bit under the weather and need a soothing, hot beverage. As I'm getting over my cold, this is just what I need and each ingredient really comes through with each sip. You can also add this infusion to soda water, for a cooler drink, and you'll get around 12 cups from the one bottle. It's a mix of both tart and sweet, and I can't get enough of this infusion!
Verdict: My Treat have done well in bringing a diverse range of products that are eco-friendly and natural, and all made by New Zealand businesses. I received a good mix of both naked products and recyclable products. This box also carried on with the Winter theme, with some treats to help you battle ills and chills. My Treat focus each month on delivering boxes to subscribers that are filled with NZ made, natural, and sustainable products, and even their packaging is eco-friendly with wood wool used to keep the products packaged safely on its journey to you.
