Retreat Yourself's 'Mystery Box'

This box is a bit different for me, as it is from an Australian Subscription Box company, called Retreat Yourself. I started following them on Instagram and they posted about their annual Mystery Box sale, so I decided to buy one to get a taste of what their boxes are like, and because the words 'Mystery Box' always sound exciting! Retreat Yourself also do a quarterly subscription box which is $59.95 AUD along with shipping costs. You're probably looking at around $80 NZD to get a box sent to NZ which may seem expensive, but it is only every three months, and their previous boxes look pretty impressive. They also have their Summer Box for sale as a one off and it looks amazing with 15 (yes,15!!) items.

The Mystery Box was on sale for about a week at 7pm every night and I'm pretty sure they sold out like hot cakes. This box was at a special price of $29.95 AUD along with a shipping cost of $14.95 AUD, so in total, it cost me around $47-48 NZD. Shipping was very quick, and in total I received seven products.

1. Food for Health Samples

First up I received two sample bags, one sample of 'Nutty almond fruit free clusters' and a sample of 'Vanilla yoghurt mini bites'. I haven't tried the clusters yet as I'm not a big breakfast person but I did try the mini bites and they were delicious. Who knew that chickpeas coated in vanilla yoghurt would be so tasty? I don't think you can get Food for Health's products in NZ, but this healthy snack would be easy enough to make yourself.

2. Berry & Cedar wood Deodorant by The Divine Company

The items that did excite me in this mystery box were the products, with this pump-spray deodorant being one of them. The Divine Company are an Australian beauty and skin company whose products are certified organic. This deodorant is GMO-free, gluten-free, cruelty-free and vegan. Including this deodorant in the box was great as it's a bathroom staple, and one that does not contain aluminium is even better. Some of the core ingredients in this bottle are: aloe vera juice, sodium bi-carbonate, chamomile extract, cedar wood oil, thyme and honey flower extracts. I found this be a beautifully scented, light deodorant and this is one of my fave items in this one-off box.

3. Green Goddess Superfood by kulture

Next up we have a pouch of superfoods powder, and this has to be my most-liked consumable product in the box and even though it is a sample, you should get a handful of servings out of this packet. I'm not a smoothie / shake person, so I thought I'd just add a teaspoon to water to try it out, though this is the perfect addition if daily smoothies are your thing. It's not that I don't like smoothies, but in the morning I like a quick routine which involves downing a cup of coffee then heading to work. Directions on the back state that you can also add a teaspoon of powder to coconut, almond, rice, oat or cow's milk and fruit juice. It didn't taste too bad in water and tastes slightly peppermint-y, but I think I'll be adding it to juice next time. The Green Goddess has many benefits as it helps with hormone balance, fatigue, boosts libido, is full of vitamins and aids digestion. It's key ingredients that are all organic are: raw cacao, maca, wheat grass, kale, alfalfa grass, chlorella, peppermint and monk fruit.

4. Blue Dinosaur Super Bite

The third sample in this box is this Acai Berries Super Bite bar. This bar contains organic coconut, dates, blueberries, strawberries, acai berries, and organic coconut oil. Suprisingly, I thought this bar was really yummy as I'm not really into raw bars. It's not too sweet and the texture is nice and smooth. You can buy some of Blue Dinosaur's range in NZ at Mighty Ape!

5. Papaya Lips by PURE Papaya Care

The second beauty product in the Mystery Box is a tube of Papaya Lips by PURE Papaya Care. This lip balm contains Australian fermented papaya, shea butter, macadamia, jojoba and candelilla wax. It also is vegan and does not contain any preservatives, petroleum, castor oil, or palm oil. I found this lip balm to be incredibly hydrating and long-lasting, and I'll be sure to carry this around with me everywhere!

6. Certified Organic Face Cleaner by Hempme

The last and my fave item in this box is a face cleanser by Australian company 'hempme'. I was in dire need of a face cleanser top up so this was a welcome surprise and savior! One of the key ingredients in this cleanser is hemp seed oil, which contains amino acids and linoleic acid which helps to hydrate and protect your skin. Hemp seed oil has many amazing benefits and can help with many different skin conditions such as acne, dermatitis and eczema. Hempme's products come in a biodegradable tube (yay!), are cruelty-free and vegan! Other ingredients that are in this cleanser are: aloe vera, pink clay, pomegranate extract and, calendula extract. I found this cleanser had a slightly anti-bacterial but natural scent, was gel-like but light on skin, and easily removed makeup. It is on the slightly pricier side at around $32 NZD, but it does contain hemp oil which is such a beneficial ingredient and it's a gentle cleanser for people with skin conditions.

Verdict: Retreat Yourself's Mystery Box had some beautiful, natural surprises, and it's clear to see that their boxes are all about providing products that make you feel and look healthy and great, and that are organic,cruelty-free and beauty and wellness focused. Even though I would have preferred one or two at the most, consumable products, there's not one item in this box that I disliked or wouldn't use. It was good to try a one-off box from Retreat Yourself and it's made me really want to get their Summer Edition Box! You can get yours over at Retreat Yourself.
