My Treat 'October Body + Underwear' Box
It's been a while since I've posted and I'm a bit behind on my reviews so this one here will be short and sweet as I haven't tried all of the products in the October box or have only used them a couple of times. There are three different boxes you can subscribe to, with this one being the 'Body & Underwear' Box, which is $44.95 NZD per month along with $2.50 shipping. In the October box I received two pairs of lacy underwear and and six full-sized products, with this month's products focusing on on the face. Below are the items I received.
1. Skinny Tan 7-Day Tanner
The only product in this month's box that I won't be using is this tube of tanning cream by Skinny Tan, only because I have quite dark skin and I just don't need to use tanning products at all and I'd probably look really strange if I did use this. The great thing about this product is that it uses naturally derived tanning ingredients that subtly bronzes your skin and is cruelty free and even vegan-friendly.
2. Kiri Antioxidant Kiwifruit Face Wash
The first face wash in the October box is by NZ brand Kiri, and contains rosehip oil and kiwifruit seed oil which has Omega-3 to assist in increasing skin elasticity. I keep this gorgeous green wash in the shower and it provides a gentle clean. This isn't the most exfoliating or best facial wash I've tried but it does provide a simple, fruity-smelling cleanse.
3. Candie's Red & Black Lace Underwear
Another sexy pair of underwear with lace trim from My Treat! This fabric feels super soft and is bum hugging but comfy.
4. NV Felt Tip Eyeliner Pen
My favourite item in the October box would have to be this felt tip eyeliner in 'Blue Velvet' by cruelty-free makeup brand, NV. I've tried several NV products and haven't thought much of NV, but this eyeliner suprisingly impressed me.
This eyeliner has a hard, fine-tipped point so it's incredibly easy to create perfectly lined lids. This is one of the best and affordable eyeliner pens I've used!
5. Candie's Charcoal Grey Underwear
Out of the two pairs of underwear by the brand 'Candie's', this is my preferred pair as it sits higher on the hips and is fuller on the bum.
6. NV Chunky Crayon Duo
My least liked item in this box is actually another NV product and this is a chunky eye pencil duo. It's not very pigmented and I found it quite difficult to apply as you have to put a bit of pressure on the pencil which in turn, irritated my eyes. I wasn't able to find the price for this product and there aren't too many stockists of NV around, though you can get some of their products from Mighty Ape.
7. Kiri Manuka Honey Face Cleanser
This second Kiri face cleanser contains Manuka Honey with a UMF of 16. UMF (Unique Manuka Factor) is a standard that measures the anti-bacterial strength of Manuka Honey. From reading just the box of this cleanser, I was looking forward to trying it. This makeup removing cleanser is fragrance free however, so there's no sweet honey scent in this tube. This cleanser has a thick and creamy consistency but washes off easily and it did leave my skin feeling very soft. Out of the two Kiri cleansers included in the October box, this is the better one.
8. by nature Purifying Day Creme
As you can see throughout this review, My Treat focuses on providing NZ-made, cruelty free products which makes My Treat stand out from a lot of other beauty subscription boxes. This daily cream by 'by nature' contains Rice Protein & Green Tea Extract and is to be applied in the morning to help defend your skin from urban pollutants. Again, this is another fragrance free product. I've only used it once so far, but it's lovely, light cream that doesn't leave your skin feeling greasy. I can't wait to use this after I finish my other moisturiser!
Edit 22/1/18: I've been using this cream daily and even though it's supposed to be fragrance free, it has a bit of a funky smell so I'm taking down my score by one heart.
Verdict: The October box by My Treat was a bit of a hit and miss for me. I really liked the eyeliner pen, day cream and honey cleanser, but I wasn't sold on the tanner, kiwifruit cleanser and the chunky eye pencil...especially the chunky eye pencil. As with any subscription box, you are always going to come across items you love, and items you hate, but so far, most of my boxes from My Treat have contained great products and this month's box does contain a couple of really good full-sized keepers and with all of their products being cruelty-free, this is a box that I'll continue subscribing to.
